Save the date! May 5, 2013: Atlanta Gluten & Allergen Free Wellness Event @GFAFWellness

I am excited about The Atlanta Gluten & Allergen Free Wellness Event scheduled May 5 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Gwinnett Center outside Atlanta.

I haven't been healthy enough to travel to any gluten-free events since 2011, and I've honestly missed finding out more about the growing gluten-free community.

There are so many changes in gluten-free foods since I was first diagnosed with Celiac disease in 2007.  As I approach my anniversary, I'm thankful for events like this.  There is something absolutely THRILLING about going to an exhibition hall full of food and knowing you can safely enjoy it all!

I hope I'll see many friends at the expo! This event is going to be awesome! Check out this press release from the organizers!

Organized by ECHO Event Solutions (ECHO), the event is sponsored by Udi’s Gluten Free, Glutino Food Group, Enjoy Life Foods, Ingles Markets, and Penta Water.  This is the first event in Atlanta organized by ECHO, but it marks the sixth time Atlanta has hosted a gluten-free event.

EASTER Dessert: Warm up a Cold Weather with a Tropical Fruit Parfait

Bring Bright, Sunny Flavors to an Early Easter
Holidays come early this Spring, warm up Easter Brunch with a tropical fruit parfait

Spring holidays fall earlier this year and may be much cooler than usual. Warm up the holiday table by incorporating the bright, sunny, refreshing flavors of spring into an Easter Brunch.
A tropical fruit parfait will add some sunshine to your celebration. Start with an abundance of fresh tropical fruits, then layer with a sweet, creamy filling scented with Nielsen-Massey Pure Orange Extract (recipe below). Made from the finest oranges, this extract enhances the fruits’ natural flavors. Guests will appreciate the light dessert, which brings a little extra color to what may be a colder than usual holiday.
    Tropical Fruit Parfait
    8 ounces cream cheese, softened
    3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar, sifted
2 to 4 tablespoons whole milk
1/2 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Pure Orange Extract
4 fruit choices such as finely diced mango, pineapple, grapes, strawberries or whole blueberries
    1. Combine the cream cheese, confectioners' sugar, milk and orange extract in a mixing bowl and beat using an electric mixer.
    2. Alternate layers of the cream cheese mixture and the fruit in a trifle dish or parfait glasses by either spooning the cream cheese mixture or piping with a pastry bag.
Note: Approximately 3/4 cup of each fruit choice allows for 2 tablespoons per layer in parfait glasses.
    Serves 6

    Spring Is On Its Way!

And so is the Greenway Farmers Market,

Saturday, March 16th from 9 am til noon

Spring is fast approaching in middle Georgia, and all of your favorite farmers and producers are gearing up for an exciting market season!  The Greenway Farmers Market will be this Saturday, March 16th from 9 am til noon.  Your favorite middle Georgia farmers and producers will be there offering the best locally- and sustainably-grown food in town, including: great sustainably-grown produce and mushrooms; pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb, goat, chicken, and eggs; hormone-free and antibiotic-free dairy products; hearth-baked artisan breads and other baked goods; and handcrafted jams, jellies, and preserves.

But there's more. . . starting in April, you can look forward to the Greenway Farmers Market EVERY WEEK at the Oconee River Greenway from 9 am til noon!  The first weekly market will be Saturday, April 6th from 9 am til noon.  You can expect all of our regular vendors, plus seasonal vendors and craft vendors on special occasions, every week from April through November at the Oconee River Greenway.

Why Eat Organically-Grown and Local Food?

All regular vendors at the Greenway Farmers Market produce everything they sell within 100 miles of Milledgeville.  Also, all produce is grown without synthetic chemicals and animals live on pasture and do not receive regular antibiotics or hormones in their feed.  But why should you eat organically-grown and local food?  Here's six great reasons (and lots more info) from Georgia Organics.

Interested in Volunteering at the Market?
