Founder's Announcement - Discontinuing Our Line of Single Serve Frozen Soups

To all of our friends

In 2007, when the FDA announced a recommended standard for gluten free foods, I saw an opportunity to give back to a community that has meant so much to me and my family.  As you may know, my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac Disease as an infant over 20 years ago, and at that time there were  virtually no gluten free prepared foods available but there was a strong network of support from other families like ours.  As such, it was a dream come true when in 2008 we were able to launch our line of restaurant quality, gluten free soups and offer a convenient solution to so many previously underserved people.

Since then, we have had the privilege of delivering soups to so many different people from all across the United States and Canada, and we have been humbled by your loyalty to us and to our soups.  Therefore, it is with much heartache that I announce the discontinuation of our consumer line of single serving frozen soups.  Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were not able to successfully build the frozen soup category.  There are many great brands and products vying for space in the frozen food cases of supermarkets, and our products fell a little short of gaining the necessary sales momentum.

I want to personally thank you all for all of your amazing support and advocacy over the years, and I want to assure you that our commitment to serving great tasting gluten free foods remains as strong as ever.  While we will no longer be selling products directly to consumers, we will continue to make premium quality, gluten free soups for restaurants and prepared foods departments in supermarkets.

You will still be able to find our single serving frozen products at select retailers for the next few months, but please call ahead to make sure they still have the varieties you are looking for.

Thank you again for allowing us to be a part of your lives, and if you have any questions I will do my best to respond in a timely manner.  You can reach me directly at jerry@kettlecuisine.com

no more #Glutenfree extended menu at Outback in Roswell

A celiac friend sent this to me, and I asked permission to reprint. For four years (yes, today is the fifth anniversary) I've been a proponent of this store. And since this a post by me still shows up -- I feel responsible to my friends and especially to those #gluten free friends.

Here is that post....
http://gfingf.blogspot.com/2008/07/maybe-im-amazed.html

No more extended gluten free menu. Bye bye #gf blooming onion. Buns. Donuts.

It was the last reason I still went.
Sigh....
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

> Hi!
> > The Roswell Outback is no longer any shining star for people who must avoid gluten. We knew the owner who started this wonder. We have been going there every two weeks since he started this menu. On June 16, 2012, we asked for a GF menu at the host stand and were told, "we don't have any here. The server will explain it to you." My husband replied, "That's OK she has the GF menu memorized." > He went to the restroom. I waited at the table.
> When the server came over, his only interest was in taking my drink order. As soon as he had it, he turned away from me to leave. I stopped him to request a GF bloomin Onion. > It was only THEN that he informed me that they no longer have "an EXTENDED gluten free menu". He was very rude and acted like I was a total inconceivence to his evening.
> > The owner is still reaping the benefits of this advertising without actually following thru with anything even remotely close to polite treatment of guests.
> > Out of town guests read this blog and still think this resturant is a safe place to eat and are totally disappointed.

Patriotic Party Platter Recipe from Nueva Cocina

I had the opportunity to sample several items from this line and I love it's flavor and authenticity. So here is a July 4 repast!

***********************

What’s red, white and blue and delicious too?  It’s Nueva Cocina’s recipe for a Patriotic Party Platter.  Share the spirit of independence Day with these two dip recipes from Nueva Cocina (www.nuevacocina.com), the first 100 percentnatural Latin food brand.  You will have a “blast” serving them at your Fourth of July celebrations!

I've found Nueva Cocina products at Natural Foods Warehouse. The products are healthy, well -priced, and most are gluten free. We really love the Picadillo seasoning!

Red Salsa:

1 packet of Nueva Cocina Chipotle Taco Seasoning

1 can of diced tomatoes (10 oz.)

4 plum tomatoes

2 tablespoons of olive oil

1 whole lime

½ cup chopped red onion

2 Tablespoons of chopped cilantro – optional

Salt to taste

Dice the plum tomatoes.  Add chopped onion, olive oil, seasoning mix and the can of tomatoes.  Mix together.  Add cilantro and salt.

White Bean Dip

Nueva Cocina White Bean Soup Mix

1 packet of Taco Fresco Seasoning

7-8 ounces of grated Queso Blanco cheese (may be substituted for another white cheese of your liking)

1 ½ cup of sour cream

5 tablespoons of olive oil (2 tablespoon for soup preparation and 3 tablespoons for the dip0

Follow the recipe on the soup, but only use two cups of water instead of three indicated on the package.  Once cooled, smash the beans for a smooth consistency.  Add the sour cream, 3 tablespoons of the olive, and the seasoning mix.  Mix together.  Add half of the cheese to the mixture and mix thoroughly.  Top with remaining cheese.

Arrange the dips on  a party platter with blue corn chips.

Fascinating marinade for Father's Day Grilling

I was intrigued with this recipe, so much so that I'm trying it on some sirloin and ribeye steaks this weekend.  I appreciate the vanilla and coffee extract offer -- as Randy loves coffee-flavored food, I think I'll also use it next week to make some ice cream.

I will be making one big change -- I plan to use the delicious locally roasted Sumatra coffee from Blackbird Coffee in Milledgeville for this.

But I thought this sounded so yummy.  I hope you like it, too.

Celebrate Dad with a Steak Dinner with a Special Twist

Vanilla Adds Depth of Flavor to Father’s Day BBQ

Waukegan, Ill. (May 30, 2012) – According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 70.1 million fathers across the nation. That means 70.1 million colorful ties, tool kits, and golf clubs purchased every Father’s Day. This year, try something new: enjoy the summer weather and break out the grill to give dad a personal gift with a tasty twist.

Add flavor to his favorite steak or BBQ meal with Nielsen-Massey Vanillas. Family owned and operated Nielsen-Massey has been creating quality vanilla and pure flavor products since 1907. They are a great addition to a summer BBQ, pairing well with meats, veggies, and even summer cocktails. While vanilla extract may seem like it belongs in mom’s baking cabinet, vanilla can become a go-to ingredient for dad’s BBQ too.

“Vanilla extracts are perfect in savory dishes – especially in marinades and rubs. They add a depth of flavor and actually enhance the natural flavor of the meat,” said Craig Nielsen, chief executive officer of Nielsen-Massey Vanillas. “I’ve been known to use the flavors of vanilla for my own summer BBQs.”

Surprise dad this year by adding a unique vanilla twist to his favorite meal. The Kona Rubbed Steak recipe below is a great place to start.

Kona Rubbed Strip Loin
8, 6 oz New York strip steaks
Marinade
1 qt. Kona coffee, brewed extra strong and chilled
1/4 cup Kona coffee grounds
1/2 cup chipotle peppers
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
1/8 cup Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract
1 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Pure Coffee Extract
6 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
3 shallots, peeled and chopped
4 sprigs of thyme, chopped
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 bunch scallions
1 cup salad oil
Combine all of the solid ingredients in a food processor and blend. Slowly add the coffee and salad oil and blend until all of the ingredients are combined. Cover the steaks in the marinade and cover with plastic wrap so the marinade covers the entire surface area of the meat. Marinate for at least 4 hours. After marinating, remove and dry off the steaks. Season with salt and pepper, and grill to your desired temperature.
